Summary:

London, 1501. Varina Westcott, a young widow and candlemaker for court and church, has been asked by Queen Elizabeth of York to carve wax figures of Elizabeth's children lost in infancy and her two brothers, the Princes of the Tower, under the watchful eye of handsome Nicholas Sutton. But when news comes from Wales that Prince Arthur, Elizabeth's eldest child and heir to the throne, has died, Varina and Nicholas are sent to investigate the queen's suspicions that he did not die of a sudden illness, as reported.
